Taxis Dublin

One of the main advantages of working as a Taxi Driver is that they can do flexible work shifts. As a self-employed person, a Taxi Driver can work during the hours when they are available, without committing to a fixed work shift.

But are the wages worth the flexibility provided by the job? How much do taxi drivers earn in Dublin? The answer to that questions depends on several circumstances, such as time of the day when they work, number of events taking place in the city that result in more customers, number of hours worked, and even the weather.

Wages

The figures used in this text are estimates taking into consideration a Taxi Driver who rents a taxi and works during the busiest hours of the week, that are Monday to Friday when people are going to work (6 am to 9 am) and going back home (3 pm to 6 pm) and Fridays and Saturdays from 8 pm to 3 am.

The estimate gross weekly amount made by a Taxi Driver who works these hours is from €1,200 to €1,500*. There is a weekly expenditure of around €500 to pay for the taxi rental, insurance, fuel, and other expenses. That figure could be lower or higher depending on the week. The table below, taken from the Manual for Operating in the SPSV Industry Edition 7.2 – September 2019, shows the projected expenditure for a typical SPSV operator.

That said, the net income of a Taxi Driver who works during the busiest hours of the week is between €700 and €900 per week in Dublin*. Again, those figures could be lower or higher depending on the factors already mentioned in this text. As a self-employed person, a Taxi Driver is obliged to pay taxes over their yearly income.

It is important to highlight that most people who are new in the taxi industry initially rent a taxi to see if they like the business. But ultimately the idea is to buy a taxi and operate using your own vehicle.
