Chauffeuring: a Growing Job Market in Ireland

chauffeuring ireland

If you enjoy driving and like to interact with clients, you could find Chauffeuring a rewarding career. Small Public Service Vehicle (SPSV) Driver Licence holders interested in joining this industry can become self-employed people and offer their services online or look for jobs in tour companies, in corporations that provide private transport for their clients and/or staff, and in families looking for a private driver. Usually these professionals drive Limousines and executive people carriers.

The role of Chauffeurs consists of picking up clients at the Airport and driving them to places where they need to be while in the country, such as their hotel, conferences and business events. They are also required to drive clients to their daily activities and commitments. Chauffeurs must be flexible and adapt their journey according to the client’s needs.

Tourism

Chauffeurs working in the Tourism industry provide bespoke tours that could take place all over the country. They are responsible for the safety, quality and comfort of the journey and for interacting with the clients and give them information about the spots visited and general information about the country.

The bespoke day tour industry grew by 7% over the last 24 months in Ireland due to the number of high-end tourists visiting the country every year. On the other hand, working for the Tourism industry could be a seasonal job, the peak time being from spring to autumn.

Being a qualified National Tour Guide is not a requirement, but it is a recommended option to get some extra qualification to increase your employability in this industry.

Qualities

There are certain qualities that Irish companies look for when hiring a Chauffeur:

  • Great driving skills
  • High standard of customer service
  • Very good interpersonal skills
  • Candidate having friendly disposition
  • High level of professionalism
  • Fluency in English

Chauffeurs are also required to have a high standard of personal grooming and are usually required to wear tie and suit for work. Bear in mind that high-end clients pay premium for their travelling experience and want to be provided with a great service.

Requirements

Candidates  looking to apply for a job as a Chauffeur must hold an SPSV Driver Licence. To obtain one it is necessary to pass the SPSV Exam.

Unfortunately, there is a very high failure rate in the Exam. This is exactly where Taxischool can help. We are the number 1 in Ireland in teaching people how to pass the SPSV Exam. For more information click here or contact us and we will be happy to be the beginning of your journey to get your SPSV Licence.

Chauffeurs can apply for the SPSV Licence for any county and drive all over the country as it is a service booked through an app or by phone.

Taxi Drivers, who also need an SPSV Driver Licence to operate, are only allowed to work in the counties where they have passed the SPSV Area Knowledge Exam as this is a job that involves picking passengers off the street so they need to prove their area knowledge for those counties before being permitted to operate.
